Jellyfish Tower

A final project from the first term of structures class. A timber tower is meant to model pinned-connections in creating a tower to withstand the maximum axial loading, as a function of mass.

All Possible Options

Using grasshopper, we optimized a structural form with a minimum of material as the primary goal. Our tower won: lightest tower in class, weighing in at a scant 9 ounces while withstanding lead weights and 30 lbs of lateral loading. We won tapatio hot-sauce: perhaps the greatest prize, after the jellyfish finally collapsed.
